What style of pocket would you suggest for a defensemen?
-Lou
Hey Lou,
This is a great question and one we get asked all the time. Stringing defense lacrosse heads can be tricky business. In my opinion the simple answer is a DEEP pocket. Not too deep where it’s illegal or too difficult pass on a clear, but deep enough where a few stick checks from a pesky attackman is not going to dislodge the ball.
Defensemen are not ball carriers however, they still need to pass and catch effectively. If you have ever watched or played a game where the defensemen just can’t clear the ball you will know where I am coming from. The ideal pocket for one D-man is likely not ideal for another D-man. When stringing a stick for a D-pole see what the player is most comfortable with.
As always, when stringing any stick consider the foundational rules of stringing.
